Henry Chu’s research interests are in machine learning and data science. His recent work focuses on developing unsupervised deep learning methods that can synthesize the underlying probabilistic distribution of data so that optimal decisions on the data can be devised. He frames his work in societal system analytics, with an initial focus on health systems. For the past three years, he has led a team of software and informatics professional in a strategic innovation partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health. His work usually involves collaborations with subject matter experts to provide data evidence that advises on policy matters.
Dr. Chu is a 2017 invited participant of the Computing Research Association’s Leadership in Science Policy Institute, Washington, D.C. In 2016, he served as a team mentor in the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps for Learning Program. Since 2016, he has been the Secretary of Health-appointed member of the State of Louisiana Health Information Technology Advisory Committee. He has served, since 2006, on the Louisiana Board of Regents’ Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitiveness Research Committee. He has reviewed Board of Regents’ Supervised Undergraduate Research Experience Program since 2013. Previously, he was a member of the Board of Regents Master Plan Research Advisory Committee’s Digital Media and Enterprise Software Task Force.
Dr. Chu is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi (all disciplines), Tau Beta Pi (engineering), and Eta Kappa Nu (electrical engineering) honor societies. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a professional member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
