6a.019.DU - Ontology as a Service (OAAS)

Project - Summary

Ontology as a Service (OAAS), is an innovative ontology engineering approach that enables optimal application of existing rich semantic metadata networks within and across industry. The platform extends the Metadata Research Center’s Helping Interdisciplinary Vocabulary Engineering (HIVE) technology. OAAS can transform industry workflows and enrich data to support semantic data driven analytics. The OAAS Center for Visualization and Decision Informatics (CVDI) project has, to date, had two chief outputs, to date. These include: 1.) an advanced HIVE server registration an interoperability framework, 2. Prototype for HIVE visualization using D3. The current, extended work with OAAS is to leverage HIVE with Clarivate’s Science Citation Index.

Project - Deliverables

1 Ontology registration and interoperability framework: Develop an automated pipeline supporting interoperability among RDF, SKOS, OWL, and JSON-LD, including the most common variants.
2 Enhance the HIVE’s visualization. Use D3.js REST API to to provide visualization for examining two or more semantic ontologies and determining the best application.
3 Evaluation OAAS with IAB member – GSK. Test the effectiveness and efficiency of the prototype ontology pipeline application in a real-world setting.
4 Roundtable. Toward the close of year one we will seek CVDI IAB input about the potential for a roundtable for the spring meeting. The roundtable will provide time for industry members, researchers, including students, with an open opportunity to ideas and dialogue about the technological means of managing.
