Center for Visual and Decision Informatics

I am an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark. I lead the Machine Learning and Computational Intelligence (MaLeCI) group at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the research area on Machine Intelligence of the Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics at Aarhus University. I also serve as Associate Editor in Chief of Neurocomputing journal handling the area of Neural Networks.

The aim of MaLeCI@AU is to gain a better understanding of the ways computational models can efficiently learn from experiencing a variety of complex environments. This involves the study of statistical theories and computational models, such as those in statistical machine learning, neural networks and deep learning, as well as their practical implementations in a variety of application domains either as standalone models or as jointly optimized solutions. Our work is funded by the European Commission, the Danish Council for Independent Research, the Innovation Fund of Denmark, and companies. Our research has led to new methodological and theoretical results, and concrete solutions in problems coming from computer/robot vision, signal processing, bioscience, and finance.
